Daily-driver Barrie tow truck service for sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, crossovers and light pickups under one ton. Wheel-lift handles most calls; flatbed kicks in for AWD, lowered or damaged cars. - Wheel-lift or flatbed sent
- AWD-safe loading every time
- Free quote locked before arrival
How wheel-lift works
How a Standard Barrie Tow Truck Loads Your Vehicle
The wheel-lift arm is a two-piece hydraulic yoke that slides under the drive wheels (front on FWD, rear on RWD) and lifts them off the pavement. The other two wheels roll normally on the road during transport. Loading takes 4-7 minutes on-scene — fastest of any tow type because there's no ramp angle to set, no straps to run under the vehicle, no wooden extensions. On tight scenes like downtown Bayfield Street parkades or narrow residential driveways in Codrington, wheel-lift is the only method that physically fits.
The limits matter. Wheel-lift is safe for 2WD and RWD vehicles up to Class 3 (14,000 GVWR) — that's every ordinary sedan, most SUVs, all half-ton pickups, and unloaded three-quarter-ton trucks. It's unsafe for AWD (rotating driven wheels damages transfer cases), EVs (rotating drive wheels damages inverters), low-clearance sports cars under 4 inches (wheel-lift arms scrape splitters), and any vehicle with locked steering or seized brakes. Those situations need Barrie flatbed towing at slightly higher rates.
Standard Tow Flow
How a Barrie Tow Truck Call Works, Breakdown to Drop-Off in 4 Steps.
-
Place the call
Phone (705) 302-1315. Tell the operator your vehicle make and model, the breakdown symptoms, and where you are, including direction of travel if you're on a road.
-
Hear the rate
The operator quotes a rate range and arrival window before any wheels turn. The number you hear on the call is what shows up on the invoice, no surprises.
-
Operator hooks up
The closest local rig pulls up. The driver checks your vehicle's drive type and condition, then loads with wheel-lift or flatbed depending on what's safe for your make and model.
-
Drop at your destination
Tow to your home, your Barrie repair shop, or the nearest impound. Paperwork, payment and key handoff confirmed before the operator pulls away.
Downtown Barrie parkade access
Downtown Barrie Parkade Towing — Clearance Matters
Downtown Barrie has a stock of pre-2010 parkades — condos and office buildings along Dunlop Street, Bayfield Street, and Owen Street — with 6 ft 8 in ceiling clearance. Standard wheel-lift tow trucks fit these clearances by design. Most flatbed trucks don't; the tilt-deck raises above 7 feet when the tow truck is inside a garage, and older buildings simply don't clear it. If your vehicle is stuck in a downtown parkade, tell dispatch the building name so we send wheel-lift automatically.
Newer parkades (post-2015) generally have 7 ft+ clearance and accept either truck type. Higher-rise buildings on Anne Street and around the Georgian College area typically have proper commercial vehicle clearance. For residential garages — most Barrie residential garages have 7-8 ft ceilings — standard wheel-lift always fits. Ask dispatch about your specific building if you're unsure. For AWD or EV stuck in a low-clearance parkade, we drive it out to street level first, then flatbed from there.

Barrie Standard Towing FAQ
What wheel-lift handles, when flatbed is required instead, cost, response times, and parkade considerations.
Sunday afternoon, my Ford Escape lost transmission engagement in my driveway. Wouldn't shift into drive at all. The operator routed a flatbed because wheel-lift would have finished the transmission.
Brake calipers seized just off a major arterial during my Wednesday lunch break. Pulled into a side street and called in. Local rig on scene mid-rush, hooked up wheel-lift since.
Headed home on the highway when the alternator gauge dropped. Made it to a gas station outside town. Called Barrie Tow Truck because my regular shop is in Barrie.
Daughter's first car had a starter motor failure on a Saturday morning at our place. Wouldn't crank at all. Towed straight to a shop in the Barrie neighbourhood we trust.
